Sock Hop Social Fund Raiser

Registration form

The Mebane Historical Museum now has a beautiful permanent home, thanks to the City of Mebane. This fine facility has much to offer current and former citizens of our community.

Our financial needs are much greater in our new home, the most important of which is the salary of a part-time director.

So, put on your dancing shoes (rubber soles only, please) and come on out on October 23 at 7:00 to the Sock Hop Social Fund Raiser to help raise money to keep our Museum doors open. It will be held adjacent to the Museum in the old gymnasium of Mebane High School. Bob Graves (class of ‘62), DJ extraordinare, will be providing the music for the evening.

Our once sleepy little town has had quite a reawakening in recent years with something to offer everyone. While you are here check out the shops in downtown, the state of the art bowling alley, Zbowl, the new library and police station, Iron Gate Winery on Lynch Store Road, the Mebane Historical Museum & Memorial Garden, and on Mebane Oaks Road both the new satellite hospital, and soon to open Tanger Outlet Center.

If you are in town on Friday night you may want to attend Eastern High School’s Homecoming game at 7:30 PM at the Fred Brady Field.

Plan to drop by the Museum on Saturday, 2-4 PM, for a wine and cheese social. Come at 1:00 if you would like to share your memories of Mebane for our ongoing Oral History Project. This is a free event but you must sign up for it on the registration form

If you need accommodations for Friday and/or Saturday night (October 22, 23) a block of rooms has been reserved at Holiday Inn Express at Mebane exit 153 (919-304-9900). The group rate for double occupancy is $81.99 + tax and fees. If there are fewer than 10 reservations, the rate reverts to $94.99. Reservations must be made no later than October 1, 2010. Hampton Inn at exit 153 (919-563-5400), also has a block of rooms at the group rate of $85+tax and fees. The deadline for making reservations there is October 8. Be sure to mention “MEBANE HISTORICAL MUSEUM SOCK HOP” when making a reservation at either hotel.

Polly Duncan has handmade a beautiful Queen size quilt (click here to see photo) that will be raffled off at the end of the evening. Tickets will be available for purchase that night and are at the Museum now for $1 each. There will also be a silent auction beginning at 7:00. Those who are unable to attend may still support our efforts by sending financial contributions through the mail.
